로젠탈에 의하면 데이빗 엑스타인에 대해 5개팀이 그에게 관심을 가지고 있다고 합니다. 그 중에 벅스가 포함되어있구요.
일단 벅스는 엑스타인에게 어떤 오퍼도 하지 않았지만, 선결과제는 잭 윌슨(Jack Wilson)이나 프레디 산체스(Freddy Sanchez)의 트레이드가 먼저겠죠.

He runs very well. He is a great teammate and cares about other people which goes a long way when you're talking about leadership."

If he struggles in Spring Training, his professional career could begin in Hickory of the Low-A South Atlantic League. Regardless, the bat will carry him. He should finish in at least AA, following the same route as MVN Outsider top prospect, Matt Wieters. Alvarez is an elite talent, something the Pirates farm system has lacked in the past 16 years. He'll shoulder a lot of hope from the fans and organization.

However, the Pirates have other players they might deal this week at the winter meetings, which begin Monday in Las Vegas and last through Thursday.
Chief among those players is second baseman Freddy Sanchez, who needed a strong second half just to finish with a .271 batting average last season. He can become a free agent following the 2009 season if he fails to trigger a guaranteed option for 2010 by accumulating less than 635 plate appearances next year or 600 plate appearances while being selected to the All-Star Game.
While the Pirates are not under pressure to shed salary, they would like to try to turn Sanchez into a younger player or players to continue their latest youth movement that began in July when they dealt Jason Bay and Xavier Nady.

The Pirates have been experiencing sticker shock on the free-agent market in their attempt to add a veteran starting pitcher to a young rotation. That has led them to talk to right-hander Matt Clement, the Butler High School graduate who has not pitched in the major leagues since 2006 after undergoing major shoulder surgery.
Clement, 34, is building a new home in Butler County and would like to stay close to home, preferably signing with either the Pirates or Cleveland.
Clement spent last season in St. Louis’ minor-league system, going a combined 3-0 with a 5.23 ERA in 16 games, four starts, with high Class A Palm Beach, Class AA Springfield and Class AAA Memphis.

The Pirates could lose two players who finished last season at Class AA Altoona, left-hander Kyle Bloom and outfielder/first baseman Jamie Romak, in the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday.
Bloom, 25, raised his stock with a strong showing in Hawaii Winter Baseball. He had a 1.50 ERA in 30 innings for West Oahu after going 5-8 with a 4.19 ERA in 28 games, 22 starts, for Altoona.
The left-handed hitting Romak, 23, is one of the few power-hitting prospects in the organization. He hit a combined .259 with 25 home runs and 80 RBIs in 110 games for high Class A Lynchburg and Altoona.
Rule 5 picks must stay on a major-league roster all season or be offered back to their original team for half the $50,000 draft price. The Pirates believe Romak is too raw for a team to keep in the majors and will be offered back if drafted.
