Mike Stanton isn't making it easy on the Marlins.

Stanton, amid weeks of speculation surrounding a potential promotion from Double-A, hit a home run that reportedly traveled an estimated 500 feet on Thursday night, clearing the top of the scoreboard in Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.

올해 2월말에 이미 mlb닷컴의 유망주 전체 3위를 차지했었던 스텐튼은 벌써 올시즌 홈런이 14개째를 기록했으며, 지난 8경기에서 5개의 홈런과 .343의 타율을 기록중이라는군요.

MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reported May 2 that the Marlins feel "there is no urgency to promote the 20-year-old slugger right now," both for developmental and financial reasons related to his arbitration eligibility.
당연한 얘기겠지만, 지금 시점에서 그를 (빅리그로) 콜업시키는 것은 무의미하겠죠. 아직까지 배워야 할(뭘??) 것이 많고, 경제적인 이유(슈퍼 2 조항이라던가)도 포함이 되겠죠.

The right-handed-hitting Panorama, Calif. native is batting .450 against left-handers and .307 against righties this year. He hit 28 homers last season between Class A Advanced Jupiter and Jacksonville after clubbing 39 in 2008 for Class A Greensboro.
minorleaguesplits에서 찾아보니 올시즌 100타수에서 뜬공비율이 50%(그라운드볼비율은 37%)나 되더군요.

작년 시즌 중반에 잭슨빌로 콜업되었을때 서든리그의 노련한 투수들과 타자에게 불리한 구장탓에 홈런이 많이 감소하리라고 생각되었고, 실제로도 좋은 모습을 보여주지 못했는데, 올해는 08시즌의 그의 모습 그 이상이 되어가고 있습니다.

더더욱 무서운것은 08년에 39HR .611의 장타율을 보여주면서 58BB/153K를 당했고, 작년에는 (다소 부진한) 28HR .501의 장타율을 보여주면서 59BB/144K를 당하면서 슬러거에게 삼진은 필수구나 싶었는데, 올해는 26BB/31K를 보여주고 있네요.

스텐튼의 팔길이는 왠만한 사람의 팔길이보다 더 넓어서 (지금까지) 너무 큰 스윙으로 일관했지만, 스텐스의 수정(or 교정)과 오프스피드 피칭에 대한 이해도가 높아지면서 지금의 결과가 된거 같습니다.

이 선수 벌써부터 무서워지기 시작하네요.

11. James Paxton, LHP, Kentucky -- After a dispute with the NCAA, Paxton left Kentucky and has signed with the Grand Prairie AirHogs in the indy American Association. Their season starts on May 14. He had returned to Kentucky after not signing with the Blue Jays as their supplemental first-round pick. Now he'll go the indy route that worked for guys like Tanner Scheppers, Aaron Crow and Max Scherzer in the past.

19. Christian Colon, SS, Cal State Fullerton -- Read his Draft Report. One of the more dependable college bats who had a huge summer with Team USA, he got off to an awful start to the season, but has really come on of late. Through 26 games, he's now up to .330/.430/.615. He's got eight homers and eight steals and continues to be the type who impresses with his baseball know-how and leadership.

20. Yordy Cabrera, SS, Lakeland HS, Fla. -- Check out the Draft Report. Cabrera is one of those toolsy, dream on the potential high school bat types. The question is: Will he make consistent enough contact?

The Pirates and Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh announced a new long-term agreement on Wednesday that guarantees that at least 150 Pirates games will be televised each season. FSN Pittsburgh remains the exclusive rights-holder for Pirates regional telecasts.

The minimum 150 regular-season games that will be televised on FSN Pittsburgh in 2010 marks an all-time high by the station, which has been televising the Pirates since 1986. All telecasts will be shown in high definition.

"FSN has been a valued partner of the Pirates for more than 25 years, and we are excited to continue to build upon that outstanding partnership," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a release. "FSN's increased commitment to bring a record number of Pirates games to our fans -- all in high definition -- speaks to the strength of that partnership and FSN's commitment to the great Pirate fans throughout our home territory. We are extremely excited to be able to provide Pirate fans with nearly every regular season game, more Spring Training games and year-round programming focused on the club, its players and the many events that we have in the community.

"FSN Pittsburgh plans to provide additional Pirates programming throughout the year as well. The "Inside Pirates Baseball" segment will continue to be a fixture, as well as the live pregame and postgame shows. Left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy, one of the Royals’ top prospects, left camp late Tuesday night after informing club officials that he was quitting baseball.
07년 드레프트 캔사스시티의 3라운드(전체 96번픽)인 데니 더피(Danny Duffy)가 야구를 그만둔다고 합니다.

"Danny informed us (Tuesday) that his desire is to leave baseball at this time to reassess his life priorities," assistant general manager J.J. Picollo confirmed in a statement released by the club.
어제 구단관계자에게 말을 했다고 하네요. 자신 삶을 제고하고 싶어서 야구를 떠난다고 하네요.

"Should Danny decide in the future to return to the game, we will be happy at that time to discuss the possibility."

Club officials say Duffy’s decision appears unrelated to a recent injury -- a strained left elbow -- that was expected to prevent him from pitching in games until mid-May.
일단 이 결정은 최근 부상(팔꿈치쪽)때문은 아니라고 합니다. 그냥 긍정적으로 해석하고 싶네요. 당장은 투구를 할 수 없는 몸이기때문에 이런저런 상실감이라고 말하고 싶네요. 말해줬으면 좋겠네요.

Duffy, 21, is ranked by Baseball America as the eighth-best prospect in the organization after going 19-10 with a 2.49 ERA in 52 games since his selection in the third round of the 2007 draft.

His resume includes an appearance in the 2009 All-Star Futures Game.

Duffy was expected to open the season at Class AA Northwest Arkansas and was generally viewed as the organization’s most-advanced pitching prospect.

The Royals cited Duffy as the pitcher of the year in 2008 at Class A Burlington after he helped the Bees win the Midwest League title by going 6-1 with a 0.99 ERA in his final 11 starts.

Duffy was a Carolina League All-Star last season after going 9-3 with a 2.98 ERA at Class A Wilmington.

A while back (early February), I threw up a very early look at the Top 20 talents in the 2010 Draft class. It was ranked by talent, not according to what order I thought they would get picked. I did it two stages, with Nos. 1-10 on one day and Nos. 11-20 the next.

As I said back then, things change very quickly in the Draft world. I'm not going to re-rank the list right now. We'll save that for another day. For now, let's just take a look at the 20 I posted back then and see how they've fared so far. We'll do it the same way, with 1-10 today and 11-20 tomorrow.

1. Anthony Ranaudo, RHP, LSU -- After pitching five innings in LSU's opener on Feb. 19, Ranaudo hasn't pitched since, sitting out with an elbow issue (stress reaction). He is slated to start on Sunday against Tennessee. He reportedly threw all his pitches from the mound on Sunday for the first time since the opener. If all goes well, he'll be stretched out and moved to Friday within two weeks after this weekend's return.
앤써니 라나우도(Anthony Ranaudo) - 시즌 개막전에서 5이닝 투구를 한 이후 라나우도는 피칭을 잠정적으로 중단했다. 최근에 팔꿈치가 다시 호전되기 시작하면서 다음 주말 테네시를 상대로 등판할 예정이다. 그 경기에서 라나우도의 상태에 따라 추가적인 스케줄이 잡힐 예정이다.

2. Drew Pomeranz, LHP, Ole Miss -- The southpaw was last week's SEC Pitcher of the Week after tossing a shutout against Kentucky. He's 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA over five starts. In 29 1/3 innings, he's allowed 18 hits and nine walks while striking out 49. Opponents are hitting just .170 against him.

3. James Taillon, RHP, The Woodlands (HS),  TX -- A potential No. 1 overall pick (see story here), he won USA Baseball's first International Performance of the Year Award. Scouts have raved about his combination of stuff, size and poise.

In 27 games that he's played, Harper has hit .420 with eight homers, 27 RBIs, a .864 slugging percentage and .514 on-base  percentage. He leads or is tied for the team lead in nine offensive categories.

6. Chris Sale, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast University -- He's made five starts for FGCU to date and has gone 2-0 with a 1.73 ERA over 26 IP. He's given up 22 hits (.222 average), walking just four and striking out 40.

Overall, his numbers still look pretty good, with a 4-1 record and 1.34 ERA over five starts. In 33 2/3 IP, he's allowed 27 hits and six walks while striking out 29.

8. Zack Cox, 3B, Arkansas -- The draft-eligible sophomore has lived up to his reputation as one of better pure hitters in the class, with a .405 average in 18 games. He's struck out just seven times in 74 at-bats, spanning 18 games.
잭 콕스(Zack Cox) - 2학년임에도 불구하고 상대적으로 빠른 나이덕택에 드레프트에 나올 수 있는 콕스는 가장 퓨어히터중에 하나로 평가되고 있다. 그리고 삼진이 적은 편이다.

9. Manny Machado, SS, Miami Brito HS, FLA -- Sometimes, finding high school information isn't so easy. I'll come back with some stuff on Machado after I've talked to some scouts who've seen him recently. He did go 3-for-4 with a homer and a pair of RBIs in a recent game against Hialeah Gardens.

10. Kaleb Cowart, 3B/RHP, Cook County HS, Ga. -- A very interesting two-way player, there might be some good debate over whether he should pitch or hit. The Georgia high school season is just getting cranking now.
칼렙 코와트(Kaleb Cowart) - 흥미로운 투-웨이 선수인 코와트는 여전히 투수가 될지, 타자가 될지에 대한 논의를 하고 있다.

코와트는 작년에 다저스가 1라운드로 지명한 이썬 마틴(Ethan Martin)보다 업사이드된 선수라는 평가가 있습니다.
