원래는 순번상 린츠버그 힐켓(Lynchburg Hillcats)이 와야하지만 힐켓은 현재 플옵에 진출했고 1라운드도 통과했기때문에 차후에 나올 예정인가 봅니다. 일단은 더블 A팀인 앨투나 커브를 찾아보겠습니다.
앨투나는 시즌초에 마이너 전체에서도 최악의 팀 중에 하나로 꼽혔습니다. 시즌 출발과 함께 8연패를 당하면서 시작한 앨투나는 전반기에 2연승 4번, 3연승 2번만 있을뿐 연패를 반복하는 팀중에 하나였습니다. 하지만 후반기 벅스의 CF자원들의 교통정리가 원활해지고, 알바레스가 콜업되면서 전반기보다는 훨씬 경쟁력있는 팀으로 발전했습니다.

Top hitter for average : Pedro Alvarez, 22, third baseman. What more can be said about an elite prospect who, in his first 60 games at the Class AA level, batted .333 with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs?
Top hitter for average : 페드로 알바레스(Pedro Alvarez). 더블 A 첫 60경기만에 .333 & 13HR 40RBI를 기록한 타자에게 뭐라고 더 말하는게 좋을까?
Top hitter for power : See above. Then, factor into that 34 walks that brought a .419 on-base percentage. Nobody wanted to pitch to Alvarez and, when they did, he hit it a long way.
Top hitter for power : 위에 스텟을 봤겠지? 앨투나에서 258타석동안 .419의 출루율을 기록한 선수라는 것을. 그 선수를 상대로 정면승부한 투수는 잘 없었고, 만약 있었다면 그 투수는....
Top defensive player : Gorkys Hernandez, 22, center fielder. He did little at the plate after coming in the Nate McLouth trade -- .262, three home runs, just 9 of 17 in steals despite breathtaking speed -- but he was an exceptional fielder. The rest of the team? Not so much. The Curve's .969 fielding percentage was the league's worst.
Top defensive player : 고르키 헤르난데스(Gorkys Hernandez). 그는 맥클라우스 트레이드로 건너온 이후 타석에서 삽질- .262 & 3HR & 53%의 도루성공률-했지만 분명 수비수로는 뛰어난 선수이다. 헤르난데스외에 나머지 팀 맴버들은 어땟냐고? 앨투나는 리그 최악의 수비팀이다.
Top starting pitcher : Yoslan Herrera, 28, right-hander. He was 11-1 with a 3.23 ERA, but he is well up there in age to be considered a prospect. The one with the brightest potential is Tim Alderson, the lone acquisition in the Freddy Sanchez trade, though his performance -- and his stuff, as scouts saw his fastball fade into the 80s -- dipped down the stretch. Another to note is much-maligned Danny Moskos, who did better than expected as a starter: 11-10 with a 3.74 ERA and a healthy finishing kick. He still is seen as a future reliever, but a good year of starting never hurts.
Top starting pitcher : 요슬런 헤레라(Yoslan Herrera). 아주 좋은 성적을 냈지만 28살의 더블A선수를 유망주라고 부를 사람을 없을 것이다. 그 외에 트레이드로 데려온 팀 앨더슨(Tim Alderson)이 있는데 일단 그의 스터프는 퇴보했다. 벅스 팬들이라면 치를 떠는 이름이 있었으니 그 이름은 다니엘 모스코스(Danny Moskos)다. 모스코스는 일단 프로입문이후 부상없이 보낸 첫해이며 좋은 모습을 보여주며 시즌을 마무리지었다. 모스코스는 여전히 릴리프가 될것이라는 예측이 있긴 하다.
Top reliever : Ramon Aguero, 24, right-hander. A case of false identity and age could not mask that Aguero still can throw in the high-90s, and his cumulative 3.86 ERA got him elevated through three levels.
Director of player development Kyle Stark says : "Altoona endured a challenging season that saw a very poor first half, but a very competitive second half where they were among the best teams in the Eastern League. The team continued to compete and refused to quit. Individually, we saw some players continue to their development with promotions to Class AAA and others who emerged at Class AA. Jose Tabata battled through personal issues in spring training and hamstring issues early to have a successful season, moving closer to his goal of the big leagues. Jeff Sues struggled at Class AA, but earned a promotion to Class AAA and saw a return of his stuff to 2008 levels. Pedro Alvarez established himself as a potent middle-of-the-order bat and made strides defensively at 3B. Gorkys Hernandez matured as the season progressed and showed the physical tools that have him ranked as a top prospect. Brian Friday had a solid season overall, especially after missing some time with an inner-ear issue. A number of pitchers flashed progress, led by Danny Moskos's steady season (others include Michael Crotta, Tim Alderson, Jared Hughes, Michael Dubee, Ramon Aguero (jumping three levels), etc.)."
카일 스탁스의 한 마디 : 앨투나는 전반기 삽질, 후반기 대반격의 한 해를 보내며 지속적으로 경쟁력을 끌고 시즌을 마무리 지었다. 앨투나 소속으로 좋은 선수들이 콜업되거나 팀에 남아 시즌을 잘 마무리 지었다. 특히, 호세 타바타(Jose Tabata)는 스프링 캠프에서 개인적인 문제(부인이 아이를 유괴했습니다)와 햄스트링으로 힘들었지만, 좋은 모습을 보이며 콜업되었으며, 제프 슈스(Jeff Sues)는 더블 A에선 별로였지만 콜업되어서 작년의 좋았던 모습을 재현했다. 알바레스는 미래의 중심타자임을 증명하며 수비에서도 발전을 이룩했다.(하지만 야구월드컵 개막전에서 알바레스가 중요한 실책을 범했다죠?) 브라이언 프라이데이(Brian Friday)는 내이(inner-ear)로 고생했지만 전체적으로 솔리드한 시즌을 보냈다. 모스코스, 마이클 크로타(Michael Crotta), 앨더슨, 제라드 휴즈(Jared Hughes), 마이클 듀비(Michael Dubee), 아게로 등의 투수들이 좋은 모습을 보여줬다.
Final word : The Curve were a robust disappointment until Alvarez arrived in mid-summer, and their glaring lack of fundamentals in the field could underscore larger issues there.
벅스의 싱글 A팀인 웨스트 버지니아 파워(West Virginia Power)는 SAL(South Atlantic League)에 속해있으며, State College Spikes팀과 달리 마이너선수들이 풀시즌을 갇는 첫 단계입니다. 스파익스에서 뛴 선수중에 시즌중에 콜업되는 경우가 있는데, 이팀은 올해 벅스의 1라운더인 토니 산체스가 대부분의 시즌을 뛴 곳입니다.

Top hitter for average : Tony Sanchez, 21, catcher. He batted .316 after the Pirates made him their No. 1 draft pick, with seven home runs and 15 doubles in 41 games, not at all missing a beat from his tear at Boston College. And, to think, the draft-time concerns were about his bat.

Top hitter for power : Calvin Anderson, 22, first baseman. He is 6 feet 7 and hit a team-high 12 home runs, but he cooled considerably after a slow start. He will have to show better patience and better defense to develop into a legitimate prospect.
Top hitter for power : 캘빈 앤더슨(Calvin Anderson). 2m가 넘는 거구의 앤더슨은 올시즌 팀 최다인 12HR홈런을 쳤지만 시즌 막판인 좋은 모습을 보여주지 못했습니다. 일단 그가 공식적인 유망주라 불리울려면 타석에서의 인내심과 수비에서의 발전이 있어야 할 겁니다.
Top defensive player : Starling Marte, 20, outfielder. In addition to bursting onto the scene by batting .312 with three home runs in his first season out of the Dominican, he played a fine center field and on the corners. Sanchez called Marte the best outfielder he has seen.
Top defensive player : 스탈링 마르테(Starling Marte). 작년까지 DSL Pirates에서 뛰다가 본토로 날아와서 좋은 모습을 보인 마르테는 중견수와 우익수를 보면서 좋은 플레이를 펼쳤습니다. 산체스는 자신이 본 선수중에 최고의 외야수라 칭했다는군요.
Top starting pitcher : Rudy Owens, 21, left-hander. He was the SAL's pitcher of the year and might have had the best season of any pitcher in the system, 10-1 with a 1.70 ERA before his promotion to Lynchburg. Last year in State College, he was 3-6 with a 4.97 ERA.
Top starting pitcher : 루디 오웬스(Rudy Owens)는 린츠버그(Lynchburg)로 콜업되기 전까지 파워에서 10승 1.70ERA의 성적을 보이며 SAL 최고의 투수로도 선정되었습니다. 그리고 작년 성적대비했을때 가장 많은 발전을 이룩한 선수가 아닐까 싶습니다. 이 선수 고등학교때 155이닝동안 215K를 기록하면서 Southeast Valley 최고의 투수상을 받은 적도 있습니다. 10라운드급으로 예상되었지만 결국 벅스가 28라운드에 가서 그를 데려왔습니다. 아무래도 전도유망한 고딩에게 높은 픽은 대학으로 도망갈 확률이 높기때문에 지명하지않았던거 같습니다.
Top reliever : Diego Moreno, 23, right-hander. Again, this might have been one of the system's best. Although a little old for this level, Moreno found control of his powerful arm -- his fastball can get into the high 90s -- and put up a 2.14 ERA in 17 appearances, with 53 strikeouts and 14 walks.
Top reliever : 디에고 모레로(Diego Moreno). 작년까지 베네주엘라 서머리그(VSL)에서 뛰었던 모레로는 파워에서 첫 23이닝동안 26K를 잡으면서 시즌 통틀어 45이닝동안 57K를 잡아냈습니다. 일단 모레로의 경우는 싱글 A에서 뛰기엔 나이가 많지만 자신의 장기인 90마일 중반대의 페스트볼이 컨트롤이 잡히면서 더욱 솔리드해졌습니다. 일단 내년에 린츠버그에서 뛸 것으로 예상되지만, 올시즌과 같은 모습을 보인다면 빠르게 앨투나로 승격될 가능성이 높습니다.
Director of player development Kyle Stark says : "West Virginia survived a rough start but settled in to be a pretty fun team to watch, ultimately battling until the last week of the season when they were eliminated from the postseason. Gary Green did a good job of motivating and leading a young group of players all year long. They swung the bats and the pitching emerged as the season progressed. A young outfield led the team, including Robbie Grossman (solid first full season), Starling Marte (exciting first season in the US with tools on both sides of the ball), and Quincy Latimore (significant strides made in all areas, including maturity). Tony Sanchez had a good professional debut, flashing the offensive tools that led us to believe he was much more than a back-up catcher. Calvin Anderson showed the power that makes him intriguing in his first full season. The pitching settled in later as new arms (Hunter Strickland, Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin) complemented some others who made strides (Brian Leach, Quinton Miller, Diego Moreno, etc.)."
카일 스탁스의 한 마디 : 벅스의 마이너팀이 시즌 막판까지 플옵경쟁을 벌인 팀이 많은데 파워도 그 팀 중에 하나입니다. 일단 게리 그린(Gary Green) 감독이 선수들을 시즌 내내 잘 이끌어주었다. 로빈 그로스맨(Robbie Grossman)과 마르테, 퀸지 라티모어(Quincy Latimore)가 팀의 외야를 책임지며 잘 이끌었으며, 1라운더 산체스는 대단한 프로 첫 시즌을 보냈으며 그는 분명 백업 포수 이상의 가치를 지니고 있다. 앤더슨은 첫 풀 시즌에서 자신의 파워를 보여줬으며 시즌 말미에 어린 선수들의 등장으로 이전에 활약했던 선수들과 잘 조화를 이뤘다.
그로스맨은 일단 더 지켜봐야겠습니다. 삼진(451타수동안 164SO, 75BB)을 너무 많이 당해서...
Final word : West Virginia might have made the playoffs, except that Kannapolis was that much hotter down the stretch.
케나폴리스가 시즌 막판 뜨겁지만 않았어도 웨스트 버지니아가 플옵에 갈 수있었다는데, 시즌 성적이 5할도 안되면서 무슨...ㅡ.ㅡ;;

Record : 38-38, fifth place in North Division
Top hitter for average : Brock Holt, 21, infielder. The Pirates' ninth-round draft pick raised his average from .229 at the end of July to a final .299. No one else on the Spikes was above .260.
Top hitter for average : 브룩 홀트(Brock Holt), 21살의 인필더. 올해 벅스의 9라운더(전체 265번픽)인 홀터는 7월말까지만 하더라도 .229였지만 시즌을 .299로 마감했다. 홀트 외에 팀내에서 .260이상을 기록한 선수는 없었다.(있는데 잘못말한거 같습니다)
Top hitter for power : Holt is only 5 feet 10, but he also led the Spikes with six home runs, including a 420-foot shot over the center-field batter's eye Aug. 11, the longest by a State College player in Medlar Field history. He also had 14 doubles and 33 RBIs.

Victor Black, 21, the Pirates' No. 1A pick in the June draft, made six starts and six relief appearances. As a starter, he struck out better than a batter per inning -- 18 in 16 2/3 -- and was at a consistent mid-90s with his fastball. Spikes general manager Jason Dambach called it the best fastball he has seen in the Pirates' system since Ian Snell.

Top reliever : Zach Foster, 22, was the Pirates' 49th-round pick in 2008 draft out of Pitt-Bradford, and was seen as a long-shot at best. But he gave up only four earned runs in 29 innings for a golden 1.24 ERA, a fine match for a .134 opponents' batting average.

Gary Robinson did a good job establishing the Pirate way of doing things and mentality of competing with these new players. Some of our newly drafted position players improved steadily throughout the summer and showed the tools that got them drafted. Brock Holt played solid defensively on both sides of the bag, swung the bat well and showed surprising power. Evan Chambers and Aaron Baker played better than their numbers after a slow start. Numerous pitchers threw the ball well, including Kyle McPherson and newly drafted Victor Black. Victor consistently showed two plus pitches and an aggressive mentality."
선수 개발 디렉터리인 카일 스탁스(Kyle Stark)의 한 마디 : 스테이트 칼리지는 많은 선수들이 발전하며 좋은 시즌을 보냈고 마지막 주까지 플옵경쟁에 있었다. 스테이트 칼리지의 게리 로빈슨(Gary Robinson)감독은 어런 선수들의 경쟁심을 자극하여 팀을 잘 이끌었고, 올해 드레프트된 선수들의 기량이 많이 발전시켰다. 홀트는 공수에서 솔리드한 플레이를 펼쳤으며 이븐 챔버스(Evan Chambers)와 아론 베이커(Aaron Baker)는 시즌출발이 별로였지만 나중에 좋아졌다. 맥버슨과 블랙이 좋은 투구를 해줬으며 특히 블랙은 투피처로 매우 공격적인 투구를 했다.
Final word : State College made a mammoth improvement from its 18-win disaster in 2008, and the public responded with an average of 4,305 fans from Aug. 1 until season's end, during which four of the top 10 crowds in franchise history came out. That including a record 5,757 for the home finale Aug. 30.
최종 한 마디 : 스테이트 칼리지는 작년 (고작) 18승에서 올해 엄청난 성공을 이룩하였고, 그 결과 많은 팬들이 구장을 찾아왔다.
이제 마이너 시즌도 다 끝(물론 아직 몇 경기 남은 레벨도 있습니다)이 났고, 마이너 리뷰를 올릴까 싶었는데, 마침 편하게 번역만 하면 되는 것이 있어 뽑아왔습니다.
벅스산하 마이너팀은 총 8개가 있으며 오늘은 첫 번째로 GCL(Gulf Coast League) Pirates를 살펴 보겠습니다.

League : Gulf Coast League, rookie level
Record : 29-31, fifth place in North Division
GCL는 북부, 남부, 동부지구 총 3개의 디비전으로 나눠져있고, GCL Pirates는 북부지구에 속해있으며 올시즌 60경기에서 29승 31패를 기록하며 포스트시즌 진출과는 거리가 멀었습니다. 그리고 GCL의 포스트시즌도 모두 끝이났습니다.
사실 GCL나 AZL는 마이너최하위레벨에 가깝고, 가끔 빅리거들이 마이너 리헵을 하는 장소로 이용되기도 하기에 로스터의 변경이 아주 심한 곳이라고 할 수 있겠습니다.
그리고 다른 레벨의 마이너팀과는 달리 GCL와 AZL의 선수들은 자신의 모구단 저지를 입거나 아주 유사한 저지를 입고 경기를 뜁니다.
Top hitter for average : Ramon Cabrera, 19, catcher. Batted .291 with a home run and 16 RBIs in 37 games after being promoted in mid-season from Venezuelan Summer League. At least one member of Pirates' baseball operations believes his skill set can challenge Tony Sanchez offensively and defensively as he rises through the system. One issue: He is 5 feet 7.

Top defensive player : 기프트 니고페(Gift Ngoepe), 19살의 2루수겸 유격수. 남아공출신의 니고페는 올시즌 47경기동안 미들인필드로썬 가장 적은 에러(6개)를 기록했다. 물론 타격에서는 많은 발전을 해야할 것이다. 그는 장타율이 .281에 불과하지만 타석에서 좋은 참을성(21BB)과 13개의 도루를 기록했다. 아주 원석에 가깝게 보이지만 여전히 쓸만한 존재이다.
Top starting pitcher : 미치 파이네만(Mitch Fienemann), 19살의 좌완투수. 호주출신의 이 선수는 12경기(6선발)에 1승 6패를 기록했지만 3.79ERA와 굉장한 삼진/볼넷 비율(26SO/3BB)을 보여줬다.
Top reliever : Jhonatan Ramos, 20, left-hander. He is 5 feet 8, so he will have to work out of a bullpen, but he had a 1.82 ERA, 33 strikeouts and three walks.
