BP선정 벅스의 Top 11이 발표되었습니다. 일주일도 더 된 기사지만, BP사이트에 에러가 난건지, 벅스아이콘조차 표시되어있지않아서 이상하던 차였는데, 다른쪽 블로그에서 보고 찾아봤더니 있더군요.

일단 별 5개를 받은 페드로 알바레스는 대부분의 언론에서 선정한 유망주 100중에 Top 10안에 드는 선수입니다. 밑에 간략하게 소개하겠습니다.

그 뒤를 이어 작년 1라운더인 토니 산체스와 AFL에서 좋은 모습을 보인 호세 타바타가 별 4개를 받았습니다.

케인 & 로젠버그 & 빅터 블랙은 작년 드레프티어들이며 6위에 선정된 브랜드 린컨을 제외한 전체 선수가 모두 현 단장이 드레프트하거나 트레이드로 데려온 선수입니다.

그외에 4명의 선수인데, 일단 팀 엘더슨의 경우는 분명 SF팜에서 보여준 모습은 좋지만, 벅스팜으로 와서는 스터프가 점점 줄어들고 있어서 주위 우려를 자아내고 있습니다.
이 4명중에 당장 빅리그에 도움을 줄 수 있는 선수는 다니엘 맥커첸입니다. 맥커첸은 5선발 경쟁을 벌일 후보군 중에 한명인데, 유망주치고는 나이가 많다는게 문제겠죠.

Year in Review: 08년 벅스 1라운더인 알바레스는 시즌을 슬로우 스타터로 진행했지만, 후반기에는 최고의 타자로 변신했다.

The Good: 알바레스는 컨택터팀 3번타자에 어울리는 선수로 오랫동안 올스타 포텐셜을 지녔다. 스트라익 존에 대한 이해도와 접근법은 이미 빅리그급이며, 너무 컨택(작년 그의 안타중 45%가 장타)에 집중하는 모습도 보이지 않았다. 그는 20-80 스카우팅 스케일에서 70점의 파워점수를 받았으며, 어떤 스카우터는 그를 모 본(Mo Vaughn)과 비교하기도 했다.

Timetable: 알바레스는 빅리거가 될 준비를 차근차근 해나가고 있지만, 벅스는 그의 서비스타임을 고려할 것이다. 이 말인즉슨 그는 올시즌 인디애나폴리스에서 시즌을 시작할 것이라는 뜻이다. 물론 알바레스가 꾸준히 좋은 모습을 보여준다면 그는 늦어도 5월쯤이면 빅리그에 도달할 수 있을지도 모르며, 5월이란 시점은 신인왕을 탈 수 있는 가능성이 남아있다는 뜻이다.

사진에서 알 수 있듯이 타자로써 Top은 애틀란타의 헤이워드(Jason Heyward), 투수로써 네츠의 스트라스버그(Stephen Strasbuge)가 차지했으면 전체적으로는 헤이워드가 Top을 먹었습니다.

벅스에는 2명의 선수가 Top 100에 들었는데, 개인적으로 타바타(Jose Tabata)도 순위에 들 것이라고 생각했는데, 아니네요.

스카우터가 유망주를 평가하는 아주 보편적인 기준인 20-80 스케일에서 페드로 알바레스(Pedro Alvarez)는 파워툴에서 80을 받았고, 토니 산체스(Tony Sanchez)는 수비부분에서 70을 받았습니다. 50이라는 수치는 빅리그 평균이 될 것이라는 수치이니 나머지 20과 80은 말 하지않아도 아시리라고 생각되네요.

Pirates' Alvarez ranked No. 1 in Eastern League

Baseball America yesterday named three Pirates minor league players among its top 15 prospects in the Class AA Eastern League, including Pedro Alvarez at No. 1.

Alvarez, who finished last season with the Altoona Curve by collecting 14 home runs, 55 RBIs and a .247 average, was selected by the magazine along with pitcher Brad Lincoln (No. 10) and outfielder Jose Tabata (No. 15) among the Eastern League's top 20 prospects. Alvarez, the second pick of the 2008 draft, finished his first professional season with 27 homers and 95 RBIs combined at Altoona and Class A Lynchburg, far and away the best totals in the Pirates' minor and major league system except for Garrett Jones Indianapolis/Pirates 33 homers and 94 RBIs.

The magazine earlier in the week named Alvarez No. 3 and infielder Chase D'Arnaud No. 13 among the top prospects in the Class A Carolina League, which D'Arnaud and Lynchburg won. It also had pitcher Rudy Owens No. 11 and '09 fourth-overall pick Tony Sanchez, a catcher, at No. 12 among South Atlantic prospects. Compensatory-round pick Victor Black, a pitcher, was ranked sixth in the New York-Penn League.
페드로 알바레스가 어제 BA가 선정한 더블 A 이스턴 리그(Eastern League)의 유망주 순위 1위를 차지했습니다. 벅스는 이외에도 10위의 브레드 린컨(Brad Lincoln)과 15위의 호세 타바타(Jose Tabata)가 선정되었습니다.

최근에는 드레프트되고서 빠른 콜업을 시키는데 알바레스도 계약문제가 일찍 끝났으면 올시즌 벅스에서 볼 수 있지 않았을까 싶네요.

일단 올해 린츠버그에서는 (다소) 삽질했지만, 앨투나로 승격되어서는 아주 좋은 모습을 보였고, 야구월드컵에서도 좋은 활약으로 미국이 금메달을 따는게 일조를 했죠.

현지시간으로 10월 6일날 발표된 싱글 A 케롤라이나 리그에서는 3위에 알바레스와 13위에 체이스 디 아르노(Chase D'Arnaud)가 선정되었습니다.

To be eligible for a league's list, a pitcher must have thrown 1/3 inning for each team game or have made 20 appearances (10 in short-season and rookie-level leagues). Hitters need one plate appearance for each team game.
BA의 유망주 랭킹은 해당리그에서 BA기준에 맞춘 조건만 성립되면 유망주리스트에 올라가니 두 개의 레벨에 동시에 올라가는 경우도 흔하죠. 위에 원문은 BA가 선정한 기준입니다. 기준이 아주 미미하죠. 기준표(?)는 별 의미를 두지않는게 편할 겁니다. BA는 전통적으로 나이와 툴을 중시하는 곳이기 때문이죠.

Alvarez EL's top prospect, Lincoln and Tabata also ranked in Top 15

In yet another edition of The Future Is Coming, The Future Is Coming, the franchise with the advanced-Class A champion in Lynchburg also has three of the Top 15 prospects in Class AA's Eastern League according to Baseball America today -- and Pedro Alvarez is No. 1.
위에 말했듯이 벅스의 더블 A팀인 앨투나 커브에서는 3명이 Top 20에 올랐고 이들은 Top 15안에 포함되었습니다. 팀은 BA가 선정한 올해 최악의 팀 중에 하나로 선정되었지만 선수 개개인의 실링은 아주 높게 평가되었습니다.

Look at it this way : The Pirates don't get many No. 1s, outside of the All-Time North American Record for Consecutive Losing Seasons.

The Eastern League MVP (Carlos Santana of Akron), the son of a member of the last bunch of Pirates winners (Reading's Kyle Drabek, Doug's boy) and the next-great Giants pitcher (Madison Bumgarner) all were ranked by the sport's prospect bible as less than promising than Alvarez. Although, as BA's John Manuel wrote in a story posted today, Bowie left-hander Brian Matusz, who went 5-3 with parent-club Baltimore including victories in his final three starts with a 2.57 ERA, would've finished No. 1 except that on his way through the EL to the bigs he fell one inning short of the magazine's criteria of 20 appearances.

BA's summation of Alvarez, only for registered subscribers, begins thusly : "Alvarez had an eventful calendar year, signing late last September. . ., [starting] slowly at high Class A Lynchburg, striking out in 25 percent of his at-bats." It quotes one anonymous manager as citing this third baseman's "serious raw power" and others referring to his "plus arm" and deft hands, making up for his "modest range and agility." Portland manager Arnie Beyelor called him "a monster. He reminded me a little bit of [Boston's Kevin] Youkilis in that he's a better athlete than he looks." Alvarez hit .333 with 13 home runs, 40 RBIs, 34 walks, 59 strikeouts and a .590 slugging percentage in 222 EL at-bats.

It also mentioned his fastball and curveball caused swings and misses with late movement, and his changeup has made improvement as a third pitch. Lincoln went 1-5 in 13 starts, but crafted a 2.28 ERA and allowed batters just a .228 average before he ascended to Class AAA. There, with Indianapolis, he went 6-2 with a 4.70 ERA, but 42 strikeouts against 10 walks in 61 1/3 innings.

The question with Tabata : power. He had two homers in 228 at-bats with Altoona, three more in 134 at-bats with Class AAA Indianapolis -- where his .276 batting average was a slight dip from his .303 with the Curve. He compiled 22 doubles in 362 total at-bats.

Interesting to note, BA looked back five years. . . when the Mets' David Wright was their No. 1 EL prospect, the Giants' Matt Cain was No. 3 and No. 6 -- just ahead of Detroit's Curtis Granderson and Philadelphia's Ryan Howard -- was Zach Duke.
저는 이게 가장 흥미롭네요. 5년전 BA랭킹에서 당시 이스턴 리그 1위가 메츠의 데이빗 라이트였고, 3위가 SF의 맷 케인이었는데 6위가 잭 듀크였네요. 당시 듀크가 디트로이트의 커티스 그랜더슨과 필리스의 라이언 하워드보다 더 높은 순위였다고 합니다. 제가 그랜더슨의 나이는 잘 모르겠으나 BA특성상 하워드는 충분히 그럴수 있었다는 생각이 드네요. 앞에 말했지만 나이를 (엄청) 중시하는 곳이 BA인지라....

P.S. 써놓고 보니 이게 BA 선수 스카우팅 리포터가 아니군요. 그냥 선수 소갯글 같습니다.

원래는 순번상 린츠버그 힐켓(Lynchburg Hillcats)이 와야하지만 힐켓은 현재 플옵에 진출했고 1라운드도 통과했기때문에 차후에 나올 예정인가 봅니다. 일단은 더블 A팀인 앨투나 커브를 찾아보겠습니다.

앨투나는 시즌초에 마이너 전체에서도 최악의 팀 중에 하나로 꼽혔습니다. 시즌 출발과 함께 8연패를 당하면서 시작한 앨투나는 전반기에 2연승 4번, 3연승 2번만 있을뿐 연패를 반복하는 팀중에 하나였습니다. 하지만 후반기 벅스의 CF자원들의 교통정리가 원활해지고, 알바레스가 콜업되면서 전반기보다는 훨씬 경쟁력있는 팀으로 발전했습니다.

Top hitter for power : See above. Then, factor into that 34 walks that brought a .419 on-base percentage. Nobody wanted to pitch to Alvarez and, when they did, he hit it a long way.

Top defensive player : Gorkys Hernandez, 22, center fielder. He did little at the plate after coming in the Nate McLouth trade -- .262, three home runs, just 9 of 17 in steals despite breathtaking speed -- but he was an exceptional fielder. The rest of the team? Not so much. The Curve's .969 fielding percentage was the league's worst.
Top defensive player : 고르키 헤르난데스(Gorkys Hernandez). 그는 맥클라우스 트레이드로 건너온 이후 타석에서 삽질- .262 & 3HR & 53%의 도루성공률-했지만 분명 수비수로는 뛰어난 선수이다. 헤르난데스외에 나머지 팀 맴버들은 어땟냐고? 앨투나는 리그 최악의 수비팀이다.

Top starting pitcher : Yoslan Herrera, 28, right-hander. He was 11-1 with a 3.23 ERA, but he is well up there in age to be considered a prospect. The one with the brightest potential is Tim Alderson, the lone acquisition in the Freddy Sanchez trade, though his performance -- and his stuff, as scouts saw his fastball fade into the 80s -- dipped down the stretch. Another to note is much-maligned Danny Moskos, who did better than expected as a starter: 11-10 with a 3.74 ERA and a healthy finishing kick. He still is seen as a future reliever, but a good year of starting never hurts.
Top starting pitcher : 요슬런 헤레라(Yoslan Herrera). 아주 좋은 성적을 냈지만 28살의 더블A선수를 유망주라고 부를 사람을 없을 것이다. 그 외에 트레이드로 데려온 팀 앨더슨(Tim Alderson)이 있는데 일단 그의 스터프는 퇴보했다. 벅스 팬들이라면 치를 떠는 이름이 있었으니 그 이름은 다니엘 모스코스(Danny Moskos)다. 모스코스는 일단 프로입문이후 부상없이 보낸 첫해이며 좋은 모습을 보여주며 시즌을 마무리지었다. 모스코스는 여전히 릴리프가 될것이라는 예측이 있긴 하다.

Top reliever : Ramon Aguero, 24, right-hander. A case of false identity and age could not mask that Aguero still can throw in the high-90s, and his cumulative 3.86 ERA got him elevated through three levels.

Director of player development Kyle Stark says : "Altoona endured a challenging season that saw a very poor first half, but a very competitive second half where they were among the best teams in the Eastern League. The team continued to compete and refused to quit. Individually, we saw some players continue to their development with promotions to Class AAA and others who emerged at Class AA. Jose Tabata battled through personal issues in spring training and hamstring issues early to have a successful season, moving closer to his goal of the big leagues. Jeff Sues struggled at Class AA, but earned a promotion to Class AAA and saw a return of his stuff to 2008 levels. Pedro Alvarez established himself as a potent middle-of-the-order bat and made strides defensively at 3B. Gorkys Hernandez matured as the season progressed and showed the physical tools that have him ranked as a top prospect. Brian Friday had a solid season overall, especially after missing some time with an inner-ear issue. A number of pitchers flashed progress, led by Danny Moskos's steady season (others include Michael Crotta, Tim Alderson, Jared Hughes, Michael Dubee, Ramon Aguero (jumping three levels), etc.)."
카일 스탁스의 한 마디 : 앨투나는 전반기 삽질, 후반기 대반격의 한 해를 보내며 지속적으로 경쟁력을 끌고 시즌을 마무리 지었다. 앨투나 소속으로 좋은 선수들이 콜업되거나 팀에 남아 시즌을 잘 마무리 지었다. 특히, 호세 타바타(Jose Tabata)는 스프링 캠프에서 개인적인 문제(부인이 아이를 유괴했습니다)와 햄스트링으로 힘들었지만, 좋은 모습을 보이며 콜업되었으며, 제프 슈스(Jeff Sues)는 더블 A에선 별로였지만 콜업되어서 작년의 좋았던 모습을 재현했다. 알바레스는 미래의 중심타자임을 증명하며 수비에서도 발전을 이룩했다.(하지만 야구월드컵 개막전에서 알바레스가 중요한 실책을 범했다죠?) 브라이언 프라이데이(Brian Friday)는 내이(inner-ear)로 고생했지만 전체적으로 솔리드한 시즌을 보냈다. 모스코스, 마이클 크로타(Michael Crotta), 앨더슨, 제라드 휴즈(Jared Hughes), 마이클 듀비(Michael Dubee), 아게로 등의 투수들이 좋은 모습을 보여줬다.

Final word : The Curve were a robust disappointment until Alvarez arrived in mid-summer, and their glaring lack of fundamentals in the field could underscore larger issues there.

시애틀에서 트레이드된 이후 벅스의 트리플 A팀인 인디애나폴리스 인디언스팀에 소속된 제프 클레맨트(Jeff Clement)는 이틀 연속 1루수로 출전하면서 좋은 성적을 거두고 있습니다.
특히 트레이드 된 이후 첫 경기에서는 첫 두 타석에서 솔로홈런을 기록하면서 4타수 3안타 3R 2RBI 1BB를 기록했으며 오늘은 5타수 2안타 1K를 기록했습니다.
첫 경기 후 인터뷰에서 비록 그는 야구라는 같은 경기를 했었고 오늘도 했지만 다른 환경이다 보니 어색했다고 합니다. 하지만 여전히 타석에서 침착성을 기를려고 노력할 것이라고 하는군요.

최근 게임로그를 찾아보니 1달 이상 포수로 나선적이 없고 올시즌 통틀어 단지 16경기에 Defensive Chances(Putouts + Assists + Errors)가 단지 129였습니다. 지금 빅리그에는 스티브 피어스(Steve Pearce)와 가렛 존스(Garrett Jones)가 번갈아가며 1루수를 맡고 있는데, 존스는 과거의 성적을 봤을때 언제 삽질해도 이상할게 없는 상황이고 그가 굳이 1루를 고집할 필요가 없으며 피어스는 마이너와 빅리그의 편차가 너무 심하기 때문에 잠정적으로 클레맨트를 포수보다는 1루수로 쓰지 않을까 싶습니다.

같은 팀으로 온 아스카니오(Jose Ascanio)는 전 소속팀인 컵스에서의 모습을 이어가고 있습니다.
벅스가 그를 어떻게 쓰일지는 모르겠지만, 지금으로썬 빅리그에서도 선발로 쓰지 않을까 싶습니다. 컵스가 했던 양면성(마이너에서는 선발투수 & 빅리그에서는 릴리프)을 벅스도 따라하지는 않았으면 합니다.

일단 첫 경기는 좋습니다. 꾸준히 이어간다면 컵스시절처럼 다시 콜업되지 않을까 싶습니다.

SF에서 데려온 팀 앨더슨(Tim Alderson)은 오늘 앨투나 데뷔전을 가졌습니다.

여전히 안타를 많이 맞으며 삼진이 현격하게 줄었지만 벅스 투수진의 집단적인 문제인 볼넷이 적다는게 고무적이며 앨투나가 더블 A팀 가운데 최악의 팀으로 꼽히지만 앨더슨으로 인해 새로운 활력소가 되었으면 좋겠습니다.

그리고 콜업되어 싱글 A와는 완전 180도 다른 모습을 보여주고 있는 알바레스(Pedro Alvarez)가 오늘 홈런을 치면서 꾸준히 상승세를 이어가고 있습니다.

그리고 하나 덧붙이자면 저는 앨더슨은 SF가 준 선물이 아니라 작년 벅스-레드삭스-다저스간의 삼각트레이드에 대한 보상딜 쯤으로 생각하고 있습니다.

무슨 말이냐하면, 앨더슨은 다저스가 SF에서 FA로 풀린 슈밋과의 계약하면서 생긴 1라운드픽으로 앨더슨을 뽑았죠. 해서 SF가 준게 아니라 다저스가 작년 매니를 데려오면서 보상형식같다는 소리죠.

그리고 다저스가 작년 벅스에게 건내준 브라이언 모리스(Bryan Morris)가 최근에 'unprofessionalism' 라는 이유로 무기한 징계를 받았기에 더욱 그런생각이 드네요. 최근에 모리스가 심판 & 감독 & 팀메이트에게 행폐를 부렸죠. 해서 자체징계를 내렸습니다.
